Sprouts- Make them at home!

So easy to sprout at home

We always thought sprouts were these fancy complicated topping we would add to our salads. Little did we know that they are sooo easy to make at home and for cheap. We watched several videos before coming up with a method that we liked best.

What’s good about sprouts

If you would like to read about the nutritional and health benefits, check out this site www.everynutrient.com/healthbenefitsofsprouts.  Another great site for everything you want to know about sprouts and more is http://sproutpeople.org.

How to sprout: Part 1

Otherwise all you need to do is buy a seed of your choice such as alfalfa, mung bean, broccoli or pea sprouts. Add 1-2 tablespoons of seeds to the jar and fill with water to soak overnight.

5 day plan: Part 2

Drain the water the next day and basically all you do for the next five days is this:

1. Rinse and drain upside down in your drain board and cover with a towel.

2. Do step 1 twice a day, once in the am and again in the pm.

3. After 5 days, let the sprouts sit in the sunlight for a few hours. Then store in the refrigerator.

Great gift idea

This also makes a great unique gift! Just put a bag of seeds in a mason jar with the straining lid and the instructions and that's it!
