A friend gave us this recipe a number of years ago on the internet (sorry--we don't know which site but thank the originator of this recipe!). We’ve modified the recipe but retained the moist and densely apple filled cake. It is a favorite among our guests during the year and is perfect for Rosh Hashanah, when apples are a tradition. Don't leave out soaking the dates and raisins in Drambuie, which adds a deep sweetness with each bite! Be creative and try the cake with chopped nuts or dried plums and substitute a dusting of powdered sugar instead of the jam. Aside from our additions, we of course, added the substitutions you have come to expect with our recipes.
