Old Fashioned Buttery Biscuits

Yields 12 biscuits

 

2 cups unbleached flour

2 tablespoons baking powder

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons butter

3/4 cup milk

2 tablespoons butter for brushing tops

  1. Preheat oven to 400.

  2. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.

  3. Cut in butter with pastry cutter. Stir milk in gradually until soft dough is formed.

  4. Turn out on slightly floured board and lightly knead to shape.

  5. Roll ½ inch thick and cut with 2 inch floured biscuit cutter.

  6. Bake on parchment covered cookie sheet in a 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes. 

Expanding the table

 

Make it Non-Dairy

Use a non-dairy margarine in place of butter. Use a non-dairy milk, such as almond or soy milk.

Cut the sugar

Use 1/2 tablespoon stevia in place of sugar

Use Gluten Free Flour
